We did line drills for warm-ups while doing different punch and kick combinations. Then we partnered up to do back and forth footwork , hand strike and kick combination drills. Then migrated to doing different drills using the entire length of the floor which made for a good workout.

Did a 1/2 private before the 7pm class. Basically reviewed my 3 black belt forms and learned the beginning of southern englise (sic). The adult karate class was partnering up to lots of different kicking combinations that either flowed circular or linear.

Been taking weekly privates during the three week absence. Tonight’s karate class in Highlands Ranch consisted of doing our most recently learned DM’s left handed. Some were difficult to execute and some were pretty easy to transition over to.

After doing a 1/2 hour private, tonight’s class was a real workout after warm-ups. We partnered up to first loosen up doing 20 kicks on each leg, starting with front ball, side blade, crescent, reverse crescent and hook kicks. That’s 200 kicks in total. From there we did some combinations but mainly the class was just a pure workout.

Travels and Labor day interrupted my training but I still did manage to do my weekly privates in 30 to 60 minute sessions the first two weeks in September. Tonight’s adult karate class focused on what to do if getting choked with hands and what to do if in a neck lock. The escape and counters seemed to be practical enough to execute if you had to.
Overall on exercise, I cut back on the weight training but ramped up the cardio mileage by about 200% compared to a year ago. I want to get back into the weights again and round out the exercise with karate, weights and running. Now I am doing two out three and it feels like I am not doing enough. I guess in the big picture of things, most people don’t do anything so doing two exercise regimes is better than one or nothing.

This evening we did some redirect exercises. Partnering up, the person would punch and kick and I had to redirect the attack using the attackers body momentum.

After warm-ups we did a few kata’s such as pinan 1, kata 2, Stature and Han Suki. Then we partnered up to do some basic hand strikes and kicks which progressed to doing 4-6 striking combinations. Overall it was a good workout

This evening we paired up and did some exercises that focused in your balance and trying to push over the other person using just your hands. Moving the feet was not allowed. Then the exercise progressed to both of us holding onto the other persons gi by the shoulder and arm and then trying to shift their upper body so they lose balance, again without moving the feet. The last part of the exercise was using the same upper body hold and you can move your feet to throw the person off balance or even try a hip roll.
