Karate Workout - pure and simple

Wednesday, September 16

After doing a 1/2 hour private, tonight’s class was a real workout after warm-ups. We partnered up to first loosen up doing 20 kicks on each leg, starting with front ball, side blade, crescent, reverse crescent and hook kicks. That’s 200 kicks in total. From there we did some combinations but mainly the class was just a pure workout.

Choke Techniques

Travels and Labor day interrupted my training but I still did manage to do my weekly privates in 30 to 60 minute sessions the first two weeks in September. Tonight’s adult karate class focused on what to do if getting choked with hands and what to do if in a neck lock. The escape and counters seemed to be practical enough to execute if you had to.

Overall on exercise, I cut back on the weight training but ramped up the cardio mileage by about 200% compared to a year ago. I want to get back into the weights again and round out the exercise with karate, weights and running. Now I am doing two out three and it feels like I am not doing enough. I guess in the big picture of things, most people don’t do anything so doing two exercise regimes is better than one or nothing.
