One Big Karate Workout

Tonight was a full blown physical workout. About midway through warm-ups, we lined up to do some forward and backward lunges and side to side leaning stances. Then the Sensei wanted us to do some katas. We did pinan #3 and #4 and kata #2. Then he wanted us to do one our most recent learned forms. I did circle of the tiger. Then again but slower and with a lower than comfortable stance.

Then we teamed up into groups of three’s to do 15 of our DM’s. I went first, banged out all of them without hesitation but I am sure some looked a little sloppy because it’s a reactive exercise when fending off two people.

After that we formed two long lines and the person starting in the middle would punch in on each person and we then did our choice of a DM. Overall it was a good 50 minute workout.

Where is Everybody?

Looks like the Superbowl kept everybody home for Monday’s karate class. Tonight’s class was devoted to countering arm grabs, choke holds, lapel grabs, etc… The hour class went by fairly quickly because we covered about 6-7 different techniques starting with just breaking free from the hold to taking control of the attacker and disabling them.
