More Tournament Training

Eleven people were in the class tonight. Don’t know if it’s Monday Night Football or lack of interest in preparing for the tournament.

Tonight we started off with countdowns and at our belt level, we started off at 14. Some of the lower ranks started off at 7 for four exercises. We stopped at count 7 because the rest of the class already finished. We did 308 repetitions while some of the lower ranks did 112 repetitions.

After that we moved on to doing forms. I did kata 6 and stature left handed. Then we grouped up and did some kumite in slow motion.

Tournament Training

We started tournament training last week by focusing on forms. I am not sure if I can attend and will know in a week or so. Tonights class first started off doing our basic forms and DM’s because a few people may be up for testing and the sensei wante dto see their material. After that, we focused on tournament forms for about 20 minutes or so. Not too excited to spend five full weeks just focusing on tournament activities.

Circle of the Tiger

After warmups, we did some of our forms as a group because a couple of people may be testing in a couple of weeks. Then we partnered up and ran through about 20 DM’s. After the DM’s, it was doing our kempos.

The mini group lesson after class had me starting on the circle of the tiger form. I learned about 1/3 of the form and it seems pretty easy so far.

Back With a New Belt

I tested for black on Saturday, Sept 6 in Lake Forest. Out of the 11 belt tests, this one was the hardest. All of my material was solid with a mistake here and there and my fighting was dead on too.

Tonights class was lead by a new 2nd degree black but sorta new to teaching adult karate classes. After warmups, we did some of our basic forms and then 1-22 DM’s. Then we did some tournament forms ( a little early for this) and I did kata 6 and stature lefty. One guy in our group looked zonked out so I started messing with him. He would say he’s doing kata 1 so I feigned I didn’t hear him and would reply; “Pinan 4?” He knew I was joking around with him.

Labor Day Karate Class

Last year we had 8 students. Today 10 showed up for the 7pm adult karate class. After warm-ups, we did learned some new techniques that involved sweeps and arm locks. They were fairly technical to learn and apply but it was interesting on how it all came together into a couple of techniques to use.

I have been prepping for the 6-8 hour black belt test in California this Saturday. I’ve been training for over a month for this starting with running in high humidity/high temperature, then running at 6,000 ft with high temps. Been doing at least an hour every day doing the material right and left handed. If I don’t get rushed on the lefty forms, I can do most of them.

Been protein loading earlier in the week and carbo loading for the next 3 days. Hoping the sea level location will be a real advantage for me.
