I was in the lead spot this evening and I get to set the tempo of the warm ups. When it came to do 30 push ups, I was on count 8 and everybody was on nearing count 10. The Sensei barked for the group to stay on my count. I like doing the push ups slow and deliberate.

After warm ups we partnered up to do some pad work starting off with some basic hand and leg strikes. Then we advanced up to doing a a 1-2 combo, get into a twist position to do a spinning backfist and then finish off doing a leg kick. Took a bit coordination to do it lefty.

Feeling pretty good with my wind, not 100% though. The warm ups comprised of running in placeat 30 second intervals, sprint for 10 seconds and then do an exercise, then repeat the whole process all over again for another set. The exercise in the sets were: 25 jumping jacks, 25 push ups, 25 crunches and 25 squats.

After warm ups, we moved on to doing additional warm ups with some kicks. It started off with a front ball, then front ball & front instep, then front ball, instep, side blade, adding into the set was the back kick and a hook kick. Both right and left sides. I bobbled a couple of times and my wind was pretty good.

After that, we partnered up to do some simple “push-glide” exercises goint forward and backwards. The class ended with us doing a stabbing knife technique that went something like this.

- Attacker stabs in, you move to the right a bit while blcoking their arm with your left hand, grab wrist
- Step into the direction when their arm is and break th elbow with right hand, then right shuto to the neck.
- Grab their right shoulder and sweep the leg, pull arm out of socket.

Pummel Two Attackers

Tonight’s class was probably the best I felt wind wise. The warm up exercises were the typical ones and I was breathing fairly normal. Doing 40 jj’s, 50 crunches, 75 push ups, and 20 squat kicks which didn’t make me want to keel over like it did 2-3 weeks ago.

The major part of the class focused on directing your punches and kicks at 45 degree angles to two attackers. First we warmed up do a right punch to the left, right back fist to the face (going to the right side), a left palm heel to the face (right side) and a right back fist to the face (punching to the left).

Then we partnered up into groups of three’s to do this routine right and left handed. I was with two black belts so near the end, we can add out own finish either with an arm press breaking the elbow or a rear back kick to the ribs.

Spinning Back Kicks

Missed Monday’s class due to being in Dallas all day. After the warm-ups, we formed three lines to do some basic right/left kicks with the first set starting off with a spinning back kick. Then onto a hook kick and then a spinning hook kick. The tricky part was to get synched up properly when facing right, to turn clockwise, landing then facing left and go into a counter-clockwise spin. After that we partnered up to do some hand/arm checks while moving around the attacker.
