Tonight’s adult karate class theme was “discipline” and following instructions.
After warmups, we did 10 front ball, front instep, front ball-instep-side blade, front ball, instep, side blade and back kick on the right and left legs. That’s about 180 kicks in total.
Then we formed groups of 3 and the instructions were to run through all of our DM’s without pause. About 1/3 through, the Sensei stopped the class and pointed out that some are talking during the DM exercise and mentioned that we are to do our DM’s without talking and remain focused.
I flubbed 4 (did 15 instead), skipped 10, flubbed 16, skipped 17 and skipped 19.
After the DM’s we got a hand pad to do some more kicks. We were instructed to do 20 right and 20 left roundhouse kicks. After the roundhouse kicks, we did spinning hook kick, 2o on each leg for a total of 80 kicks and a total of about 260 kicks for the entire class.

Tonight I am fitting in 1 hour of adult class karate and 1 hour of a private lesson. The adult class started off with us pairing off and doing some overhead club and stabbing knife techniques. Then we moved on to doing various choke and lapel grab defenses. From there we did a technique to escape someone who dives in at your legs and attempts to bring you down to the ground.

I am going into my fourth year taking karate and the more notable changes I have seen are increased leg strength, agility and coordination of complex moves.
Tonight’s adult karate class started off doing some multiple hand/leg combos for coordination. The hand routine elevated to doing a crane’s beak, inverted leopards paw and then a tiger’s rake. The leg combo elevated to doing a front ball, crescent, reverse crescent, roundhouse and then a spinning back kick.
Then we went to doing some chi sao with a few people. And then we paired off to do a routine that reinforced the fluidness of doing circular blocks. The attacker would do a front kick followed up with a punch. We were to block the kick, block the punch, strike the face, tigers claw to the groin, take down with a leg sweep followed up with a punch to the face.

I was in the front row/#1 spot again. I must be a long timer now. There were a few students eligible to receive a test card for Friday’s upcoming test so the majority of the class was a review. We started off doing DM’s with the Sensei calling out a random number. I did all of them pretty quickly except #17. It just didn’t click in.
Then we moved on to kempos. All we did was #1-10. I did #7 as #8 and #8 and #7. Then we did our forms starting with pinan 1, 2, kata 1, pinan 3, pinan 4, stature, kata 3 (messed up a couple of footsteps) and I was the solo person to do kata 6. I skipped probably 40% of the form because it hasn’t sunk in yet.
Then we partnered up to do our overhead clubs. I have a solid 10 and we also learned a new one that night.

I missed the Wed-Mon-Wed classes in the first part of August due to travelling to Dallas, Ft Lauderdale and Jacksonville so this is my first class in August. Tonight I was in the front row lead position with about 14 people in the class and after warm-ups we did the following:
- formed 3 lines of 5 and we did all of our DM’s
- partnered up and we did our Kempos
- lined up in groups of 5 again and did some leg work with pads.
- lined up as a group and did some forms
