Testing Review

Wednesday, February 28, 2007

Sensei announces he’s evaluating a few people to see if they are ready for the upcoming brown belt test. We paired off to do our DM’s left-handed. I messed up DM #3 but did the higher ranked ones pretty good. Then we ran through our kempos. Then we did our overhead club and side club techniques. The class wrapped up with doing our lapel hand grabs.

I am testing for 2nd degree brown on March 10.

Back to the Karate Basics

Monday, February 26, 2007

This evening’s adult karate class was again focusing on our core material. After warm-ups, we partnered up and we did our DM’s one for one. We then rotated down the line to our right and we continued our DM’s from where we left off before the rotation.

Then we formed two lines with one person in each line facing the others. They were to punch in one after another while we did our kempos. I went first and mistepped #6 a bit in the opening footwork but recovered. I think I skipped #16 but still managed to pop off 24 of them.

More Review of the Karate Basics

Wednesday, February 21, 2007

As a continuation from the previous Monday, the other Sensei had us go through a review of our DM’s and side club techniques. The DM numbers were called out to the group and we did our DM without a partner. Felt sorry for the two orange belts because they had to do DM 6 if they didn’t have a DM to do. They must have done 25 DM #6’s.

They we partnered up into groups of 3’s with one in the middle to do all of our DM’s without pause. I went first and I think I did 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11 ( I abbreviated it since the person I did it on weighs about 235), 12 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 and 26. I skipped 9 and 10.

Then we partnered up into groups of 2’s to go through our side club and stabbing knife techniques.

Kempo and Overhead Club Review

After warm-ups, we paired up (I with a black belt) to run through all of our Kempo’s. I need 20 at my level but I have a solid 25. We did our Kempo’s one for one. I initially did DM 12 instead Kempo 12 and I may have miskicked a kick or two when doing Kempo 27 but otherwise I did them all OK.

Then we moved over to reviewing our overhead club techniques. I have a total of 8 and we learned a couple of new ones.

Sensei was keeping a watchful eye on all of us tonight.

Hand and Foot Pad Work

Wednesday, February 14, 2007

Tonight we focused on using pad in avery targeted and coordinated manner. Starting off with the hand pad, we would do a left and right hand combo (e.g.left backfist and a right palm heel) followed up with a crescent kick. Then we moved on to the doing kicks with pads trying to use as much power as we can. I did a thrust kick and a roundhouse to the ribs.
