Forward Attack

Wednesday, December 27, 2006

Tonights adult karate class was themed around attacking an opponent in a continuous forward attack using multiple kicks. The class first partnered up into groups of three’s and each group was to decide on what items they wanted to review for 15 minutes. Our group decided to review our stabbing knife, overhead club and side club techniques.

After that, we still stayed in our group but lined up into rows, with one person in each row holding a kick pad. We were to take turns in kicking the pad in an aggressive and forward manner while the pad holder would retreat a few steps after each kick. We did this about 5-6 times.

Everybody is Kung Fu Fighting

Missed the last two Wednesday classes due to being out of town one week and having a holiday office dinner the following Wednesday. I’ve been trying to heal a tender left ankle which I think I sprained while taking a couple of tumbles while skiing.

Tonight’s adult karate class started off with some basic warm-up exercises and after that we tripled up to do our top 10 (last ones learned) DM’s. To keep it simple for me, I just ran through my DM’s starting with 12and ending with 26.

After that was done, the Sensei grouped us into groups of five. Each group was to do a dragon circle where you can do a DM or a kempo. Some of my moves were a little sloppy but that’s to be expected when you run through the routine in a rapid manner.

When we were done with this, we put on our sparring gear and remained in our same group of five. One person goes in the middle and that person was to spar one of the four in a semi-slow sparring speed for about 30-45 seconds. Then the next person switches with another to spar the same person who was in the middle. I felt pretty good and got some decent kicks and punches in. I got tagged a few times too by the two black belts.

DM and Kenpo Review

Monday, December 4, 2006

Tonight’s karate class started off with some serious pyramids. We has to do jumping jacks, push-up, squat and then a crunch starting at 1 rep, then two reps, etc…The brown belts had to do up to 11 sets. That’s a total of 66 for each exercise.

After that the Sensei had us do our kenpos. I have a total of 25 and pretty much did them all without any major flubs.

Then we grouped up into three’s and the person in the middle was to do their DM at the attacker coming in at the 12 o’clock position and then the 6 o’clock position in a rapid manner. I think I skipped a DM and with no major flubs.
