Highlands Ranch CO Adult Karate Self Defense Classes, Women’s Kick Boxing, Cardio Workout

There were about 20 people in tonights class and since a few Brown Belts are testing for another stripe along with a few Blue/Green Stripe Belts are testing for their Green Belt, the class was spent on covering their material.

DM’s
This exercise has a little twist tonight. At your own pace, you do the DM’s you already know and after each DM, you either do 5 push-ups, 10 crunches or 10 squats. You keep going until the Black Belts finished their set.

Forms
As an entire class, we did our forms closely bunched together. When the higher belts got to Kata 2 or Pinan #4, I stuck with Kata 2 because I just started to learn Kata 2 in my private lesson and what a great opportunity to hone the half of Kata 2 in a group.

DM’s and Kempos
Then we partnered up and did every DM and Kempo one for one in a rapid manner

Knife Blocks
Then we did our overhand and side knife blocks over and over again. Repetition helps.

That was it for the 1 hour adult karate class.

Monday’s Adult Karate Class

Highlands Ranch, CO - Monday, March 21, 2005 - Martial Arts Karate Training, Self Defense Techniques

After our usual warm-up and stretching, tonights adult class mainly focused on knife blocking techniques and how to react to an attacker throwing multiple punches at you.

KNIFE ATTACK - first we covered how to step away and block an attacker who pokes at you with a knife. Then we learned how to evade a knife attacker who first stabs at you and then in the same motion, takes a swipe at you. I think we all got cut (fake) during this exercise.

MULTIPLE PUNCHES - this exercise simulates when an attacker throws not one but two punches at you and is moving quickly in your direction. We had to use our DM’s by using a hand block on the first encounter and then quickly recover and defend against the second hand strike. This exercise illustrates how quickly an attack can be and how you react to it.

What Are The Karate Classes Like

Wednesday, March 16, 2005 (Highlands Ranch, CO)

I found this karate studio at www.ussd-colorado.com and I am glad I signed up and started taking martial arts classes.

In tonight’s adult class, we started off with some interesting warm up exercises. The sensei placed a sheet of loose leaf paper on the floor every 5 feet or so, with each indicating a specific workout station for a total of ten stations. Each page was labeled with a specific exercise to perform. For example, station one was the push-up exercise and you had to do push-ups for 45 seconds. Then moving to station #2, it was crunches for 45 seconds, station #3 was mountain climbers for 45 seconds, etc. Once we completed all 10 stations. We started all over again and did each station for 30 seconds.

After that warm-up, we grouped up into groups of 5 to perform kicking techniques. 10 kicks into a pad with the right leg and 10 kicks using the left leg. First it was the front ball kick, then side thrust, then spinning back kicks, crescent kicks, reverse crescents, etc…

Overall it was a good workout session and an opportunity to focus on leg techniques.
